Nature trips on the Elbe

Visitors in Glückstadt are welcome aboard the flat-bottomed boat ‘Tidenkieker’ for regular excursions. A tour on the ‘Tidenkieker’ is a unique experience. Whether you want to watch birds, marvel at the sheer size of the passing container ships or just enjoy the fresh sea air and tranquillity on the water – this is your opportunity to be part of it.

Depending on the weather and the tidal conditions, the trips go upstream to the island Schwarztonnensand or downstream towards Freiburg and to the sandbank Brammer Bank. The young island Schwarztonnensand was declared a nature reserve in 1985 due to its vital role as a habitat and resting area for many different species of water birds. The ‘Tidenkieker’ is able to dock on the beach of the bank and thanks to its gangplank, all visitors can get ashore without getting wet. On the Brammer Bank, visitors can watch seals and the adjacent nature reserve Allwördener Außendeich, home to thousands of breeding and migratory birds.

One member of the crew is always an expert guide who provides visitors with detailed information about the landscape and the local wildlife.
