Cultural life

Glückstadt has a vibrant and diverse cultural scene. The town offers a variety of different exhibition spaces, from the Palais für aktuelle Kunst (Contemporary Art Gallery), to a number of small galleries and even to quite unusual places to display art – for example on a balance beam! Local artists present their works in different open ateliers and allow visitors to get a glimpse of their cultural output.

Few other museums in Schleswig-Holstein have such a long-standing tradition as the Detlefsen Museum, which provides visitors with an overview of the history of Glückstadt and the region. And even some of the smaller museums such as the Eisenbahn-Stellwerkmuseum in the former signal box or the Optiquariat have some treasures among their collections.

Music lovers will also get their money’s worth in Glückstadt. Whether it’s classical music, rock concerts, jazz, folk festivals or the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival – there’s always something going on here.

Other cultural events include the KulturMärz (Culture in March) or the Night of Culture. Literary readings at the harbour or construction site theatre, for example, are just one of the wide variety of cultural events on offer in Glückstadt.

One thing is for sure: in Glückstadt, art stands for more than just consumption. Thanks to our many creative artists, it rather stands for exchange and pure joie de vivre.
